Happy Birthday America

Our celebrating consisting primarily of sleeping, eating and being in water.  And that went for Eric as well as Baxter and Atticus.  Since it was almost 100 degrees with lots of humidity we decided against going to a parade and instead spent much of our day around water.  Sitting in the shade while wearing a wet bathing suit was the best way to prevent keeling over from the heat, and we did just that.

For fireworks, we set off a couple in front of our house.  They weren't as impressive as the official ones, but the boys thought they were pretty cool, and that's all that matters.

Eric and I both agree that once we start going to parades and fireworks, we're committing to going every year after, so we delayed it one more year.  I don't think we'll get so lucky next time.

E.T.

My most vivid memory of E.T. was watching it at my grandma's house and getting scared at certain parts, particularly when E.T. was inside the bubble environment.  We watched it the other day, and boy did I not remember a lot of it.  It's such a classic and I only remembered about 30% of the film.

Who wouldn't love a film about a friendly alien, who hangs out with a bunch of kids, creates satellites out of toys and random electronic parts and gets drunk after finding beer in the fridge?  It's also kind of crazy to see Drew Barrymore as a small child.

When we watched it, there were two people with us that had never seen it.  I know I haven't seen every classic film, but to not have seen E.T., now that's a tragedy.

Happy Fourth

The photo above is from the fourth of July last year.  We were at a friend's barbecue with the boys before the fireworks.  Good times were had all around.  This year will involve some sort of combination of parade, pool, family, friends, barbecue, fireworks, nap, and food.  It's sure to be delightful.

Going Under

Because it's been so hot, we have been spending a lot of time around pools.  Thank goodness the boys love it so much.  I don't usually have to worry about them not wanting to go in.

Weekend Wear

It has been HOT in these parts lately.  And we haven't had rain in what seems like weeks.  Since we don't have central air, we have closed our house and have been blasting the window unit in our room, trying to create a cooler house.  It has worked for the most part, but there are some nights that are almost unbearable.  All this heat has resulted in very simple outfits.  Limited jewelry, minimal layers and lots of shorts and tanks.
