Buddies

Brothers will be brothers.  Sometimes they are going fight, sometimes they won't get along, sometimes they may not even like each other much.  But the desire I have for my boys is to be close, despite their differences, despite their fights, despite everything.  There are things that they will bound over that are like most siblings, but then there will be things that they will bond over that almost no one else can relate to.  This is why their relationship is so important to me.  This is why I emphasize the importance of being there for your brother no matter what.

Even now they fight a lot, push, yell, get frustrated, but they have also been playing a lot together.  They are becoming content being with each other and not needing me in the room.  Their friendship is blooming, and not just because they are brothers.  Atticus asked Eric who his best friend was the other night and then proceeded to tell him that Baxter was his best friend.

Heart officially melted.  I love my boys.

Chicago Mini-Adventure

This past weekend Eric needed to scout a location in Chicago for a shoot he has next month, and we figured, why not make a little weekend trip out of it?  So we did.

We drank lots of coffee, did a little shopping, got myself a spiffy new jacket, ate delicious sushi in a very dark restaurant, saw a good movie, enjoyed breakfast at a wicked-awesome cafe and got caught up in the coolest antique shop ever.  All in all, a very successful getaway for parents of two toddlers.

Butterflies v.2

This week, we visited butterflies for the second year in a row. The boys loved it so much last year, that we had to go again. Here, a local indoor/outdoor sculpture and garden park has a butterfly exhibit every spring.  During March and April, thousands of butterflies are hatched and released in a large habitat, and guests are able to walk around this habitat and see a wide variety of butterflies up close. This year, we didn't think things through and ended up going during spring break which made it much busier than usual, but the kids still had fun. After seeing the butterflies, we spent some time outside in the children's outdoor park and then ate lunch together before heading home. Things like this make me love our little city so much more.

Easter

Easter came early this year, which for Michigan residents means that it is still pretty cold. We spent time with my family on Saturday which was a pretty nice day, but it definitely wasn't as warm as some years. My mom hid Easter eggs around the yard and the boys got to hunt for treats. They also were given their very first Transformer (they are very much into Transformers and super heroes currently).

(I think this is the craziest photo we've ever taken together)

On Easter morning, the four of us hung out, ate muffins and Eric and I watched the boys hunt for their baskets. They are a little young to search without any help so I made them treasure maps which led them to their baskets. They both started in their room and each one was hidden in a different spot. Along with Eric's help, they were able to find them. We didn't do anything major; some sunglasses, Clif bars, musical instruments and coloring book. It's funny how they have the same reaction to Clif bars as they do to actual candy.

Finally, on Sunday afternoon we had dinner with Eric's family. This time they were given lunch boxes as baskets and had to search the yard for treats and prizes to go inside. Each Easter gathering was a little different but they had so much fun every time, and they got to see their grandparents and aunts and uncles a lot, which is even better than candy.
