Flowers, Flowers Everywhere

On Saturday, we spent the entire day outside working in our front yard.  Neither Eric or I have a green thumb, but we wanted to make the front of our house look a little nicer.  We opted for perennials, hoping to avoid a lot of planting every year, but that's if the plants survive.

We took out every weed and plant, removed the top layer of dirt and put down this black mat, which is supposed to prevent weeds from growing (we'll see how it actually works).  Then we had to cut holes where we wanted to plant our new flowers, and replant the flowers we removed.

It was a lot of work, but we had a beautiful day for it.  It was sunny and warm.  We brought out the pack 'n play, and the walker and let the boys hang out with us outside all afternoon.  They love being outside.

After many holes, lots of weeding, and watering, we were done.  Now, we just have to water, weed and prune and hopefully (crossing our fingers) everything will grow and bloom.  But that may be asking a lot.  I'll have to give you an update in a few weeks.

Are you garden savvy?  Do you like to plant flowers or vegetables?  My parents have a huge garden, with lots of different veggies.  We'll just have to work up to that :)

  1. How is your garden going? Mine is surviving... As someone else whose thumb is not naturally green, I'm not sure I'll ever have the "huge" garden although it sounds wonderful

Our garden is going well. The flowers are actually blooming. It needs some weeding, but I am remembering to water it every other day :)
