The Help

So far I have seen this film twice, and both times I was both upset and sad.  As you probably all know, this film is about the treatment of African American maids by their white employers in Jackson, Mississippi.  Emma Stone (one of my favorites), plays an aspiring journalists who interviews local maids and compiles their stories into an anonymous book.

Throughout the film there are moments that touch your heart, along with moments that make you feel like you could punch someone.  I mean, that's at least how I felt.  Although, I might feel a little differently because of my boys, but I don't think so.  I think that I would have had pretty much the same reaction whether I was a parent to black children or not.

The second time I watched this, it was with Eric and once it was finished, he declared that it was the best movie he had seen all year.  And by some chance, if you haven't seen it, please do.  It really is spectacular.  There isn't much more you can say other than that.

  1. I felt exactly the same way! Its such a touching movie yet it surprised me how angry I felt as well. So glad things have changed for the better. Did you read the book? I think the movie is one of the best book to movies I've seen.

    1. I didn't get a chance to read the book prior to seeing the film. My sister-in-law, who I saw it with the first time, did and said it was pretty close too. I will have to put it on my "to read once I'm done reading textbooks" list ;)
